The Clay County Giving Tree, which started over 35 years ago in the basement of the former Christian Church in Clay Center by Ed and Judy Barnes began small, but little did the Barnes’ know at the time, but the annual event has grown leaps and bounds, as we fast forward to the 2023 Giving Tree wrapping event, slated to be Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Clay County Fairgrounds Activities Building.

Clay County youth win 2nd Hastings Midget football championship, Oct. 22

On Sunday, Oct. 22, a mid-afternoon football championship was decided on the campus of Hastings College, and Lloyd Wilson Field. The defending champions, the Big G Jets, 6-0, versus the Hastings Pepsi Chargers, 5-1, with the Chargers lone loss coming at the hands of the Jets in the regular season.

Following a tough three-set loss to Milford in the opening- round of the Southern Nebraska Conference volleyball tournament, the Sutton Fillies remained at home for a four-team consolation quadrangular that pitted the Fillies against David City and Fairbury, two teams that Sutton just went to battle with, Oct. 5, in Fairbury.
