Clay Center resident Lee Craig Peshek, 70, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at his son’s home near Fairfield. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at the Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center, with Pastor Arick Johanson and Clayton Peshek officiating. Lee was born June 29, 1953, in Hastings to Jack and Ruth (Lance) Peshek.

Rural Glenvil resident Edward J. Pavelka, 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his entire family, Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at his home after a lengthy battle with Vexas Syndrome. Rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial took place at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The service was live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Diane Salmon, age 70, of Stockham, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, in Aurora.

Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Stockham Community Church in Stockham. Pastors Murray Jones and Clayton Kliewer officiated. Interment was in Stockham Cemetery. Diane Fae Salmon was born Nov. 8, 1953, in Henderson to Albert J. and Mary (Mierau) Kliewer. On Aug. 6, 1976, she was united in marriage to Lonnie Salmon in Stockham and to this union two children were born. Diane attended K-8 at the Stockham School and graduated in 1972 from Henderson High School.

Doris C. Walther, 84, of Glenvil, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023. She was born Nov. 13, 1939, in Las Cruces, NM to Asher and Zenia (Vale) Harmon. Doris was a member of the Hastings congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Doris was a devoted mother and loyal caregiver to family members and friends. Doris had the reputation of helping those in need and lending a listening ear. She was a faithful Bible student and loved music, singing, entertaining guests, but most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Doris is survived by her children, Garland (Leslie), Jacob (Danielle), Felicia (Aaron) Hastings, William Jr. “Wayde” (Emily), 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Howard Harmon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents; daughter, Serena Gibson; one sister; and four brothers.

A Rosary was prayed at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, with Father David Oldham officiating. Interment followed at the Calvary Cemetery in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church to be allocated for Calvary Cemetery upkeep and restoration, Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Arylis Maxine Huebert of Henderson, passed away Dec. 21, 2023 at the age of 89. Arylis was born Aug. 17, 1934, to Raymond and Esther (Goesch) Salmen on a farm in Fillmore County, NE. She was fourth of six children. She and her siblings attended Fillmore County District 8 country school. She enjoyed school and said “that it made all the difference.” She received the highest grade in history in Fillmore County as an eighth grader. After her freshman year at Sutton High School, her family moved to the Blue River farm in York County. She attended Henderson Community School, graduating at age 16. After staying at home for a year as a “mom’s helper,” she convinced her parents that she should go to college. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. There was no room in the dorms, so she and several women from Sutton shared an apartment. In addition to school, Arylis worked in the payroll office of the Elgin Watch Company in Lincoln.

Sutton resident Morris M. Griess, 80, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at CHI Health St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at Sutton Memorial Chapel, with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Interment followed at the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery near Sutton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial.com. Morris was born May 3, 1943, in Aurora to Martin J. and Esther (Griess) Griess. He received his education in Sutton and graduated from Sutton High School. On Aug. 26, 1964, he was united in marriage to Talitha Huber and to this union, three children were born, LaRoy, Sandra, and Jennifer. Morris was a lifelong farmer in the area.

Mary Jane Yost

Mary Jane Yost

Mary Jane Yost, age 86, of Huntsville, Alabama, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 21, 2023.

Mary Jane was born January 5, 1937, in Harvard, Nebraska to Walter and Clara Yost. She graduated from Harvard High School where she met and wed her high school sweetheart, Marvin Yost. Later, she attended Athens State University, where she received a degree in business administration. She was an elementary teacher in her early years, then enjoyed a career with the Army Missile Command, where she later retired. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Marvin; her brother, LaVerne Yost (Shirley); sons, Scott Yost and Tom Yost (Shari); grandchildren, Aimee Elizabeth and David Yost.

Services were held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama.

Sutton resident David Alan Keim, 66, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at the Davenport United Methodist Church in Davenport, NE with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. In honoring his wishes, cremation took place after the funeral service. Private Inurnment will be at the Sutton Cemetery at a later date.
