Sutton resident Arlene Loy (Watts) Hoarty, 85, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at Bryan Medical Center East Campus in Lincoln. A Rosary was prayed at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, with Father David Oldham officiating. Interment followed at the Calvary Cemetery in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church to be allocated for Calvary Cemetery upkeep and restoration, Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial.com. Arlene was born Jan. 21, 1938, to Ordie and Evelyn (Kussman) Watts in Pawnee City. She was the second oldest of 10 children and grew up in several different communities in Nebraska. She met Charles Hoarty while working at Ted’s Café in Sutton. On Oct. 8, 1955, she married Charles at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. They lived on the family farm for several years before moving to town. To this union, six children were born.
Arlene loved to craft, garden, bake, sew, antique, and refurbish furniture. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arlene found joy in sharing, especially her baked goods and craft items. She loved the holidays so she could spend time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dale Gibson of Sutton; grandson, Brett and Michele Gibson; great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Brayden all of Sutton; grandson, Blake and Kayla Gibson of Hastings; great-granddaughter, Oakley.
Daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Dale Schendt of Doniphan; granddaughter, Chelsey and Tim Steinke; great-grandchildren, Jacey and Terryn of Grand Island; grandson, Alex and Kate Schendt of Giltner.
Daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Duane Potrzeba of Papillion; granddaughter, Ashley and Justin Weirich; great-grandchildren, Rhett and Brielle all of Council Bluffs, IA; grandson, Drew Potrzeba of Omaha; grandson, Jordan Potrzeba of Orlando, FL.
Daughter and son-in-law, Jacquie and Max Clymer of Seward; grandson, Chris Clymer and Nava Halpern; great-granddaughter, Brynn; granddaughter, Heather and Rod Hansen; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Blakley, and Camden; granddaughter, Brooke and Tony Howard; great-granddaughters, Makenna and Emery all of Lincoln.
Son, Scott Hoarty of Kearney. Siblings, Nellie Stachura; Dottie and Paul Campbell; Frank Watts; Louis Watts; Danny Watts; Merle and Patricia Watts; brother-in-law, Ron Cary; sisters-in-law, Mary and John Svilarich and Catherine Ward; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hoarty; parents, Ordie and Evelyn Watts; infant son, John Edward Hoarty; siblings, Robert Watts; Kathryn Cary; Josie Cary; brothers-in-law, Lambert Stachura; Ray Cary; and sisters-inlaw, Sharon Watts and Pam Watts.
