Marilyn Margaret (Ochsner) Bailey, 85, of Urbandale, IA, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, July 26, 2024, at Deerfield Retirement Home.
Marilyn was born April 8, 1939, to Gilbert and Dina (Nuss) Ochsner in rural Saronville. She graduated from Sutton Public School in 1956 and Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. When Marilyn started her nursing career, she went to Greely, CO where she met her loving husband of over 60 years, Raymond (Jim) Bailey. They were united in marriage in Loveland, CO on Sept. 8, 1962. To this union three children were born, Mark, Gregg and Cheryl. Marilyn and Jim moved to Nyack, NY in April of 1964. Marilyn worked as an OR nurse until the birth of her first child. In 1968 they moved to Saronville, NE. Jim and Marilyn moved to Sutton in 1988 and Ocala, FL in 1994. Their final move was to Clive, IA.
Marilyn worked in the nursing field most of her life. She was the Clay County nurse, Sutton Public School nurse, worked at both Grand Island and Aurora hospitals, and finished her career as the Director of Nursing at the Sutton Community Home, all in Nebraska.
Marilyn liked to travel and play bridge. She was a member of Westkirk Presbyterian Church and P.E.O. Chapter HX.
Marilyn is survived by her three children, Mark (Barb) Bailey, Gregg (Sara) Bailey, and Cheryl (Chris) Hochstein; seven grandchildren, Derek (Emily) Bailey, Tyler Bailey, Zach Bailey, Hannah (Kyle) Kirby, Ethan Bailey, Bailey Hochstein and Landon Hochstein; two great-granddaughters, Kennedy and Paisley Bailey; brother, Gerald (MaryLou) Ochsner; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Lee (Norma) Bailey, Nancy Bailey and Al (Penny) Bailey.
Services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Drive in Urbandale, IA. Private burial was at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
