Glenvil resident Lloyd Valentine, 91, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, at The Pines, Blue Hill.

Services were Wednesday, July 17, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church west of Glenvil with Pastor Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Burial took place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Lloyd was born May 19, 1933, to Herman Meindert Valentine and Lucy Rena Johnson. He was born at home in Spring Ranch township, Clay County. Lloyd was baptized July 20, 1933, and confirmed March 30, 1947, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil.

Lloyd attended Harris Knoll School until seventh grade. When the school closed, he finished eighth grade at the Spring Ranch school. In May 1951, he graduated from Hastings High School.

He worked for the J.M. McDonald Co. at the warehouse for the winter. Twenty-six years later, and several buyouts of the company, he went to full-time farming. He also drove the fertilizer truck for the Fairfield Coop. He served on the church council and the Spring Ranch Township board.

Lloyd married Donna Lee Garrelts on Dec. 8, 1957. To this union three children were born; Cindy Sue, Candy Kaye, and Darwin Lloyd.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herman and Wendell Valentine; and sister, Lavon Hohlen.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Valentine of Glenvil; children and spouses: Cindy and Ron Hinrichs, Glenvil, Candy York, Coppell, TX, and Darwin and Denise Valentine, Glenvil; grandchildren and spouses: Sara and Keith Hemberger, Glenvil, Ryan and Mel Hinrichs, Glenvil, Abby and Chris Banning, Riverside, CA, Laura and Clint Ochsner, Glenvil, and Tyler and Chalie Valentine, Valley; great-grandchildren: Wyatt Hemberger, Payton Hemberger, Lane Hemberger, Parker Hinrichs, Jaxson Hinrichs, Hayden Hinrichs, Carter Hinrichs, Sean Banning, Zoey Banning, Caleb Ochsner, Logan Ochsner, Brecken Walvoord, Nora Valentine and Henry Valentine; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Duane A. Schliep; numerous nieces and nephews.
