Deweese resident Bernard “Bud” E. Sykora,70, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior.

A Rosary was prayed at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese. Mass of Christian Burial took place at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at the church with Father Denton Morris officiating. Interment followed at St. Martin’s (Loucky) Cemetery near Deweese. Memorial contributions may be directed to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund. Condolences may be left at www. mclaughlinchapel.com. Bernard “Bud” Sykora was born Jan. 5, 1953, in Superior to Leo and Rose (Hlavac) Sykora. He attended grade school at Deweese Public and high school at Sandy Creek Public. He took additional welding and electrical classes at Central Community College in Hastings. Bud was later employed with T-L Irrigation and also worked construction with Ed Souchek until he began his true calling as a full-time farmer. He spent over 50 years working the farm his father had established.

Bud married Eileen Rothfuss on June 2, 1979. Together they spent 44 years raising two sons, growing the family farm and traveling the world. He was always willing to meet a new friend on a cruise ship or walking the beach. Bud enjoyed woodworking and had an extensive collection of classic farm toys and antique coffee grinders. He enjoyed discovering a variety of agriculture signs that covered the walls of his shop. Bud spent many years as a volunteer for the Community Club of Deweese and Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Sykora; and brothers-in-law, Jim Wright and Dean Rothfuss.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen, of Deweese; sons, Dennis Sykora (Jennifer) of Hastings, and Dan Sykora (Alissa) of Hanna, IN; grandsons, Ty and Lance Sykora of Hanna, IN; sister, Rita Wright, of Kearney; brother, Don Sykora of Stockton, MO; sister-in-law, Jody Sykora of Deweese; and his nieces and nephews.
