LeVern Trautman

LeVern Trautman

Feb. 21, 1928 ~ June 11, 2024

LeVern Trautman was born Feb. 21, 1928, at his home near Grafton. He was born to Reuben and Margaret Klein Trautman. LeVern had one sister, Laura, and two brothers, Edwin and Donald, all who have preceded him in death. In 1949, LeVern was married to Twila Roemmich, and together the couple had three children; Gwendolyn, Gregg, and Gary. LeVern spent his time on the family farm, which he took over after graduating from Grafton High School when his parents moved into Sutton. The family had row crops and raised cows, pigs, and chickens. LeVern continued to live on the farm, with his wife and children, until they moved to Sutton in 1971. LeVern always found time to support his children’s activities. He also played on softball teams with his children and coached co-ed and girls softball.

He and Twila played in a card-club and played almost every week in the winter. When the club played at their home, they generally had their children sitting on their laps asking to play too. And of course, the dessert was always homemade ice cream, the product of one of the best cooks in town, Twila!

LeVern was an avid farmer “through and through” and he farmed the family farm until 1990, when the farm was destroyed by a tornado. At that time, LeVern moved to Lincoln where he was employed by Payless Cashways for several years. LeVern was a valued employee who received many awards for his service to the store. Customers frequently asked for LeVern, who they knew would be friendly and would know “exactly” what they might need.

After retiring, LeVern spent his time taking care of his garden, lawn, and repairing lawn mowers and snow blowers, and anything else his children or grandchildren needed him to do for them. He had every tool imaginable and could fix anything anyone brought to him to “fix.”

LeVern loved going to garage sales, playing cards with family, and occasionally going with one of his children to the casino.

LeVern was a jokester who had many friends and will be dearly missed.

LeVern is survived by his wife of 75 years, Twila; his children, Gwendolyn, Bell, Gregg (Cindy), and Gary Trautman, all of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Jenise and Eric Trautman, Allyson (Chris) Northup, Tyler (Ashley) Bell, Alyssa (Phil) Berhe, and Erica (Travis) Eakins; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for LeVern was Sunday, June 16, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made in care of the family for later designation.
