Clay Center resident Curt L. Bennett, 63, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings after a brief, hard-fought battle with cancer.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center, with Pastor Stuart Davis officiating. In honoring his wishes, cremation took place following the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www. mclaughlinchapel.com. Curt was born June 25, 1960, in Neligh, to Roger and Lois (Lucas) Bennett. After graduating from Clay Center High School in 1978, he attended lineman school at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, and then became a journeyman electrician. He worked at ABC Electric in Hastings from 1980-1986. He then transferred to Electronic Systems Inc. where he enjoyed working for the last 38 years. At the time of his passing, he was serving as ESI’s service and sales manager.
Curt married Kim (McLaughlin) Bennett in 1988. Curt and Kim had one child, Derek, in 1990. They were married just short of 36 years. Curt previously was married to Julie Bernhardt from 1980 to 1987. They had two children, Travis in 1983 and Alicia in 1985.
Curt enjoyed spending time with family and being in the great outdoors, fishing and camping. He was always excited for yearly family camping weekends with all his children and grandchildren. Curt was always ready to give a helping hand to whomever needed it and always worried about his closest friends more than himself.
Curt was preceded in death by his father, Roger, and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Bennett, of Clay Center; his children: Travis Bennett (Sami Sinsel) of Loveland, CO, Alicia Berglund (Patrick Yungdahl) of Gibbon, and Derek (Erin) Bennett of Norfolk; his mother, Lois Bennett, of Clay Center; his sister, Sheila (Dallas) Steiger of Port St. Lucie, FL; others left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Breleigh, Autumn, Sawyer, Eamon, and Bridget as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
