Arylis Maxine Huebert of Henderson, passed away Dec. 21, 2023 at the age of 89. Arylis was born Aug. 17, 1934, to Raymond and Esther (Goesch) Salmen on a farm in Fillmore County, NE. She was fourth of six children. She and her siblings attended Fillmore County District 8 country school. She enjoyed school and said “that it made all the difference.” She received the highest grade in history in Fillmore County as an eighth grader. After her freshman year at Sutton High School, her family moved to the Blue River farm in York County. She attended Henderson Community School, graduating at age 16. After staying at home for a year as a “mom’s helper,” she convinced her parents that she should go to college. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. There was no room in the dorms, so she and several women from Sutton shared an apartment. In addition to school, Arylis worked in the payroll office of the Elgin Watch Company in Lincoln.

During her high school years she met and began dating Denton Huebert. They were engaged during Denton’s second year serving his 1W service in Denver, CO and married Sept. 5, 1954, in Sutton. Arylis and Denton lived in Denver for a short time before moving to Henderson where they lived the remainder of their married life. They had three children: Kimberly, Karla, and Kory. As a child, Arylis was involved with 4-H and continued this tradition with her daughters. She and Denton loved music and encouraged all their children to take piano lessons and be involved in church and school music.

Arylis was a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson and, especially in her later years, enjoyed attending the Women’s Ministry programs. She also was involved with the Henderson Hospital Auxiliary.

Arylis was preceded in death by her husband, Denton Huebert (in 2003); parents, Raymond and Esther Salmen; and siblings, Lorna (Russell) Dickensheet, Elaine (James) Ekstrand, Maurice (Doris) Salmen, Velma (Jerry) Greenfield, and brotherin- law, Dale Traudt.

She is survived by her sister, Joleen Traudt of LaVista; children, Kimberly (Nathan Miller) Pace of Greeley, CO, Karla (Charles) Block of Henderson, and Dr. Kory (Kathryn) Huebert of Eugene, OR; grandchildren: Kristin (Jason) Klipp, Ryan (Katie) Pace, and Dr. Jason Pace, all of Greeley, CO, Adam Block of Wichita, KS, Dr. Amber Block of Kansas City, KS, and Alex Block of Auburn: great-grandchildren: Kamden, Kayden, and Kinsley Klipp of Greeley, CO.

A memorial service was Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Reverend Chelsea Vaught officiating. No viewing or visitation as it was Arylis’s wish to be cremated. Private inurnment was held in the Bethesda Mennonite Cemetery.
