Helen Clarice Burbach

Helen Clarice Burbach

Oct. 6, 1926 ~ Feb. 22, 2025

Helen Clarice Burbach, 98, of Lincoln, passed away Feb. 22, 2025. Helen was born Oct. 6,1926 in Sutton, to Alfred and Eleanor (Johnson) Boberg.

She grew up on the family farm in Eldorado, and graduated from Harvard High School, Harvard in 1944. After graduation Helen worked at the Harvard Air Base before moving to Lincoln where she worked at Lincoln Liberty Life Insurance Company.

Helen was united in marriage to Donald Burbach on May 26, 1962. Together they had two children, Christine and Donald II. Helen and Don were founding members of St. John’s Reformed Church in Lincoln. She was active in the PTA and was the neighborhood “Avon Lady.”

After her children were grown, Helen worked for several years as a seasonal employee at the Nebraska Department of Revenue where she opened and sorted mail during the tax season. She loved sitting with the other seasonal workers and chatting as she opened and sorted tax returns on the mail belt.

She was also a devoted regular at the weekly bingo games at the WSI Hall.

Shortly after Don passed away in 2006, it became clear that Helen’s memory was beginning to fade and that it was no longer safe for her to live at home alone. Her only request when she moved was that she still wanted to go to the WSI Hall on Wednesdays for bingo. The bingo games at the assisted living facility were far too tame for Helen. For several years her family was able to make that Wednesday afternoon trip to the WSI Hall happen.

For the last year-and-a-half, Helen lived at The Harbor Senior Care where she was able to live with her sister, Isabel, until Isabel passed away Feb. 10, 2025, just 12 days before Helen’s own passing.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; siblings, Isabel (James) Montgomery, Shirley (Armin) Gemar, and Byron Boberg. She is survived by sister, Grace Boberg; children, Christine (Stephen) Villanueva, and Donald II; grandchildren, Connor (Amanda) and Cole Villanueva; and great grandchildren, Zoey and Cooper.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff and caregivers at The Harbor Senior Care who cared for and loved on Helen during the last part of her journey with dementia.
