Sutton resident Earl C. Hultman, 94, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Pastor Edison Toe officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Argonne Post #61 and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., with the family present from 4-6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton American Legion Scholarship Fund or the Federated Church. Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com Earl Hultman was born March 13, 1930, in Clay County, to Alvin B. and Sigred B. (Benson) Hultman. He attended rural school at District 9 and high school in Sutton, graduating in 1947. He then attended the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Education in 1951.

He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in February of 1952 and was stationed in San Diego, CA and Camp Lejeune, NC before attending Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and spent 14 months in Korea with the 1st Marine Division. After active-duty service, he spent five years in the Marine Reserves and attained the rank of Captain before being discharged in January of 1961.

Earl married Virginia Thompson on June 9, 1957, and to them, two children were born, Connie Sue (Hultman) Carter and James Lee Hultman.

Earl taught veterans farm training classes in Clay Center and Fairmont, farmed and raised cattle. He was a Webelos Scout Leader, served 12 years on the Sutton CO-OP Grain Company Board and was a member of the Nebraska CO-OP Council Educational Advisory Committee. He served seven years on the Clay County Draft Board during the Vietnam Conflict. Earl was a commissioner for five years on the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission from 1980-1984. He served four years as director of the Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District. He was a board member for six years on the Sutton Community Home and a member of the Sutton Federated Church for many years serving on numerous boards. Earl was also a 70-year member of the American Legion Post #61.

His main interests in life were family, reading, fishing, bowling and raising cattle and livestock.

He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Jon) Carter of Chappell; son, James (Becky) Hultman of Sutton; four grandsons, Charles (Amy) Carter of Benedict, Jeremy Hultman of Sutton, Andrew (Erika) Carter of Papillion, and Justin (Elizabeth) Hultman of Sutton; great-grandchildren, Talon, Grace Ethan, Drew, Jameson, Ruby and Jesse.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lyle; and wife, Virginia.
