Senior Owen Oglesby closed out his high school career with a strong performance in a highly talented field of runners in the Class C 400 meter dash, during action at the Class C State Track and Field Championships, Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at Omaha Burke High School.

Oglesby, who advanced to the state meet in three events total, paced Sandy Creek’s action on the track with a fifth-place finish in the 400, finishing the one-lap sprint with a time of 50.6 seconds.

Event winner, Logan Lebo of Lincoln Lutheran claimed the gold medal for the Warriors program with a time of 49.57 seconds.

Oglesby next went on to place 13th overall in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles on the Burke High oval, as his time was clocked in 42.07 seconds.

Event champion, Easton Fries of Chase County set a new Class C state record, and a Class C state meet record with his winning time of 37.99 seconds to win the event by nearly two and a half seconds, beating silver medalist, Riley Wilson of Elmwood-Murdock, who was timed in 40.26 seconds.

Oglesby then joined forces with his brother, Oliver, along with Ben Sullivan and Kaeden Schmidt to place 12th overall in the 400 meter relay, as the Cougars’ squad finished the event with a time of 44.87 seconds.

West Holt High School of Atkinson claimed the event gold with a winning time of 42.85 seconds.

Freshman Wes Biltoft kicked off the state track meet for the Cougars, as he entered the Class C high jump, the first event of the Class C state meet, Friday, May 17.

Biltoft cleared the bar at 6-feet to finished 14th overall in the field of 20 jumpers.

Garett Novacek of Aquinas Catholic edged out Hastings St. Cecilia’s Jenson Anderson for the event title, as both cleared 6’ 8” in the event, with Novacek claiming gold by way of having fewer misses throughout the competition.

SANDY CREEK GIRLS Senior Ella Martin and sophomore Emma Fisher competed in one event each in Omaha, with Martin falling short of the final round of action in the 400 meter dash with her preliminary round time of 62.84 seconds, Friday, May 17.

Fisher battled the Class C field in the 800 meter on the Burke High School track, placing 16th overall in the talented field of runners.

Fisher finished the race with a time of two minutes, 27.99 seconds.

Event winner, Jordan Metzler of Wakefield claimed gold with her time of 2:14.53 to win the two-lap race by over two seconds, as silver medalist, Hailey O’Daniel of Arlington finished second with her time of 2:17.66.
