Lincoln resident Wayne A. Davis, 91, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Independence House on Coddington in Lincoln. He previously resided in Kearney, Hastings, and the Fairfield area.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Fairfield Community Presbyterian Church in Fairfield, with Pastors Ivan and Joyce Dean and Pastor Zac Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Autumn House Foundation.
Condolences may be left at www. mclaughlinchapel.com Wayne was born Aug. 16, 1932, to John and Elsa (Rabbe) Davis who lived near Inland. He was baptized May 14, 1934, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church near Glenvil. He attended country school and then graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950. He farmed south of Fairfield with his dad until February 1953 when he entered active service with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in London, England and honorably discharged in January 1955 with the rank of Corporal.
Wayne married Sandra (Sanie) K. Heckenlively June 12, 1955. They farmed outside Fairfield for a short time before working for a local business. He then resumed farming for 20 more years southeast of Fairfield. During this time, they were blessed with three children: Clay, Kaye and Par. Before retiring, Wayne worked for Clay County Highway Dept.
In March 1997, Sanie passed unexpectedly. On April 7, 1998, he married Phyllis I. Shafer who passed in May 2006. On April 9, 2008, he married Carol A. Erpelding.
He enjoyed bowling, dominoes, fishing, dancing, and camping, including taking the family to the lake in the motorhome and the annual Heckenlively outings. Hobbies included micro mini-tractor pulling and restoring/showing antique engines and tractors (he was a John Deere man.) Wayne and his brother, Orval, were instrumental in starting the Old Trusty Antique and Collectors show in Clay Center.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sanie; wife, Phyllis; sisters, Lola and Erma; brother, Orval; his brothers- in-law and a sister-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Davis, of Kearney; daughter, Kaye (Kent) Wolfe of Lincoln; sons, Clay Davis of Hastings, and Par Davis of Summerset, SD; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Rudi) Wolfe, Spencer Wolfe, Teylor Wolfe, Sanie Davis, Jesse Davis, Canden Davis, and Hudson Davis, three great-grandchildren, Zemira Wolfe, Selah Wolfe, and Keziah Wolfe.
