Fillies bring home 8 medals from Thayer Central, finish 8th as a team

Week two action for the Sutton Fillies track and field team earned the Sutton girls a total of eight medals and 32 team points as the Fillies wrapped up the Thayer Central Invitational in eighth place.

Fairbury outscored Cross County 102-80 for the team title, with Tri County taking third overall with 73 points.

Junior Madylinn Bautista collected a total of 16 team points with a pair of runner- up finishes in the two hurdle events, leading the Fillies in the meet.

During the 100-meter hurdles, Bautista finished with a time of 17.94 seconds to trail only Josey Welch of Thayer Central, who claimed the event title in 17.50 seconds.

The 300-meter low hurdles placed Bautista second with a time of 52.68 seconds, as Tri County’s Abbie Drewes claimed the win in 52.28 seconds.

Two Sutton relay teams cashed in for hardware in Hebron, led by the 400 meter relay team, made up of Lindsey Ladehoff, Kaci Yost, Bautista, and Katie Baldwin. Sutton finished the one-lap relay in 55.4 seconds to place fourth. Cross County edged out BDS for the event title, with the Cougars finishing in 53.8 seconds, and BDS, in 55.03 seconds.

Sutton’s 1600-meter relay team, made up by Reagan Robinson, Bautista, Kamryn Steinhauer, and Jadlynn Kinney placed fifth overall with a time of 4:39.32. The event title went to Tri County with a winning time of 4:32.35. Cross County placed second with a time of 4:34.07, while Sandy Creek was third in 4:36.25.

Robinson and Baldwin added the final two track medals to the Fillies credit, as Robinson placed third in the 800-meter run, and Baldwin finished fifth in the 200-meter dash.

In the 800, Robinson’s time of 2:37.88 trailed event winner, Sam Staff of Fairbury, and second-place medalist, Micah Friesen, also of Fairbury, as the Jeff middle distance runners finished in times of 2:28.61, and 2:35.47, respectively.

Baldwin wrapped up the half-lap sprint in the 200 with a time of 29.26 seconds for her fifth-place finish. Thayer Central’s Piper Havel claimed the event title with a time of 26.92 seconds.

Sophomore’s Kaci Yost and Angelina Cloet earned the lone two medals in the field events, with Yost placing sixth in the triple jump, while Cloet was sixth in the discus.

Yost hit the 30’ 6.25” mark for sixth overall. Cross County’s Sarah Forsberg earned the event title with a 35’ 2.5” leap.

Cloet placed sixth with a 92’ 10” throw in the discus, with Deshler’s Brooke Sasse winning the event with a 100’ 7” throw.
