It was a tough day on the mats for the Sutton Mustangs in action at the Southern Nebraska Conference meet, as the Sutton crew tallied 34 team points, while earning a pair of fourthplace medals along the way.

Fillmore Central claimed the team title with 140 team points, while Milford outlsted David City by a half point for the runner-up team finish, outscoring the Scouts 129-128.5.

Sophomore Korey Poppe, freshman Connor Hinrichs, and junior Billy Marshall were the lone medalists for the Mustangs, as Poppe finished fourth in the 113-pound class, Hinrichs finished fourth in the 126-pound class, while Marshall was fourth in the 190-pound class.

Poppe’s record moved to 12-8, while winning two of four matches in David City, Saturday, Jan. 27.

Wins came over Colter Sinn of Thayer Central, winning 6-4, with his second victory coming over Kayden Bolejack of Fillmore Central in the consolation semifinals, beating Bolejack by way of a 46-second pin.

A 1:20 pinfall loss to Jaiyahn Ornelas of Wilber-Clatonia dropped Poppe into the consolation bracket, and then after Poppe’s win over Bolejack, Kasten Ruether of Centennial pinned Poppe in the thirdplace match with a 1:47 pin.

For Hinrichs, his season record moved to 22-11, while winning two of four matches.

Hinrichs opened with an 8-4 win over Jax Hansen of Milford, before Keaton Kloke of David City gained a 1:51 pinfall win over the Sutton freshman.

In the consolation semifinals, Hinrichs bounced back with a 4-0 win over Hayden Bear of Fairbury, before Garrison Schernikau of Centennial battled to a hardfought 2-0 win over Hinrichs in the thirdplace match.

Mawrsha was also 2-2 in the SNC meet, running his season record to 22-9 overall.

Marshall opened with a 54-second pin over Jesse Divis of David City, before falling in 40-seconds to Fillmore Central’s Jackson Turner in the semifinals.

A consolation semifinal 34-second pinfall win over Brodie Roth of Milford sent Marshall to the third-place match, where Thayer Central’s Nate Burd pinned Marshall in 44-seconds.

Griffin Bergen, with one win in the 165-pound class, a 1:37 pinfall win over Anthony Congdon-Meyer of Thayer Central would score three team points for the Mustangs.

Airan Hernandez (132-pounds), and Landon Scheidemann (144) both added two team points with one win each.

Hernandez gained a 30-second pin over Jackson Bernal of Superior, while Scheidemann opened with a 7-4 win over Ty Roesler of Wilber-Clatonia.

Team Scores: Fillmore Central 140, Milford 129, David City 128.5, Wilber-Clatonia 121, Centennial 109, Fairbury 98,Thayer Central 71, Superior 39.5, Sandy Creek 39, Sutton 34.

The Mustangs will take the 138-mile, two-and-a-half hour drive west to Bartley, Friday, Feb. 2, for action in the Southwest High School Invitational, which is slated to begin at 10 a.m.

Sutton then treks east nearly 110 miles for action in the D-1 District meet at Weeping Water High School, Friday, Feb. 9, and Saturday, Feb. 10. No official starting time in the district meet has been announced at this time. State is in Omaha is Thursday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 17.
