Our healthcare costs are out of control

Moving in the Right Direction

ANDERSON’S ANGLE

On numerous occasions, I have overheard the crowds of the opposing team comment on the number of small children in the Sutton stands. Sutton is growing, that is a fact. In addition, when newcomers visit our community, they are pleasantly surprised by the number of businesses in this town and how long many of them have been open.

Sutton is prosperous, that is a fact. What I find so fascinating is the fact that many of these successful businesses are owned by those parents with all those kids, many of whom are involved in about every activity that you can think of, and you see those same parents/ business owners attending all those events.

You can really tell this town supports its schools, daycares, businesses, police, after school activities, and churches. It is evident this community supports BOTH family and business growth. That is something to be proud of, that is a fact.

Speaking of businesses, on Jan. 22, I am going to be attending the annual Sutton Chamber meeting. In addition to the meeting I will have an information workshop with business owners to talk about how we can all be better prepared in the event of an unforeseen disaster that forces a business to close.

The topics of discussion will include: 1. An overview of new protocols the city will have in place to ensure clear and consistent communication with business owners.

2. Additional insurance that may be necessary to attach to current plans.

3. Any possible building updates that may need to addressed sooner rather than later.

4. LB840 updates for downtown emergency declarations that they might not be aware of.

Also, in attendance that night will be the Assistant Director of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency to discuss and run through how they get involved and help when certain disasters take place in Nebraska and what that looks like.

It should be a highly informative evening with great discussion points and topics.

Finally, an exciting development coming from the city is an updated website.

After a lot of conversations and back and forth, I believe we are finally on the path to completing this election platform promise.

We plan to update the look, usefulness, qualities, provide city updates, a platform for in-town businesses to share information, and online messaging to city office staff for quick response.

The last I checked, our website had been visited 37,398 times. This means we need to present a website with up-todate and accurate information for all community members, visitors, and those looking to potentially move here to grow their family and business.
