SCH Foundation set to kick off new planning study Jan. 16 in Sutton

The Sutton Community Home Foundation Board of Directors, along with the Sutton Community Home Board of Directors and administration will set out on their second attempt at a Capital Campaign to the nearly 60-year old nursing home beginning next week, Tuesday, Jan. 16, when the SCH Foundation welcomes Jim Rogers of the Steier Group, a capital campaign fundraising firm out of Omaha.

Rogers will bring with him a wealth of experience and background as he spearheads a new Planning Study for the foundation and SCH board.

Rogers is a native Nebraskan, born in Omaha, and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He has worked on projects for the Steier Group in Chicago, Kansas City, Nashville, Port St. Lucie, and most recently finished work in Bellevue for a food pantry. When not working, Rogers enjoys cooking, smoking various meats for friends and family, traveling and yearning for the Huskers to return to a winning season.

You will most likely find him with a large iced tea, unsweetened, as he moves throughout his workday.

Rogers will office out of the Sutton Community Home, where he will be conducting interviews, and compiling information for a pending Capital Campaign following the six-week planning study, kicking off Jan. 16 with interviews of members and their families of both boards, along with the administration and staff at the Sutton Community Home.

MOVING FORWARD

While the commitment and dedication to the residents are ever changing, the ability to serve them is increasingly difficult, especially in the skilled nursing facility, which is approaching 60-years old.

The mechanical and electrical systems are near the end of their functional life and require costly maintenance, and the building itself requires substantial upgrades and renovations to comply with current codes, let alone to make sure that it can provide our residents with the comfort and fullness of life that they deserve.

The proposed four-phase will include upgrades, a 3,500 square foot administrative addition, and renovations to the entire nursing home facility, leaving the assisted living center untouched at this point.

The renovation process will increase the size of resident rooms, and once the new administrative wing is complete, the northeast wing will become resident rooms.

The estimated $5.5 million renovation will also involve renovations to the current north, central, and south wings of the facility, after renovations are completed in the northeast wing.

INTERVIEWS

During the upcoming planning study, residents, and business owners, in and around Clay County, and Sutton will be asked to share their feedback with Rogers during the planning study so that members of the home board, the foundation board and administrators of the Sutton Home can begin to strategize the future of the home with information gathered by the Rogers and compiled by the Steier Group.

Jeffrey Ahl, the principal at “arCuretecture” and his peers from Lincoln remain as the design firm and the project manager of the renovation projects moving forward.

Should the planning study show a positive theme in terms of financial support of the renovation, it is estimated that the capital campaign would have a six to nine-month long duration, with follow up counsel by the Steier Group lasting another three to five years at the completion.
