KPE Consulting Engineers of Omaha was busy Dec. 18-20 doing an overall structural engineer study on the entire west half of the damaged North Saunders Ave., downtown business district in Sutton.
The Omaha firm was hired by the City of Sutton at a total cost of $26,250 “scope of services” study to help the City of Sutton, and business and building owners affected by the July 29, EF-1 tornado that damaged the entire west side of the downtown business district, as well as, leaving a damaging impact on the east side of the North Saunders Ave. business district, along with many other residential properties, the Trails End Motel, and the Fox Hollow Golf Course’s maintenance shed, and cart sheds.
The specific scope of work, provided by KPE Consulting was to provide a structural assessment of the extent of damages, and provide a scope of repairs to address the findings of the damages. The study, as presented to the Sutton City Council during their Dec. 11 meeting, was to also provide a scope of repairs, that are to include recommendations for the altered conditions, should demolition, or removal of a portion of any building involved in the scope of services during the study.
In the end, KPE will provide a written, and photographic report of the conditions of the buildings in this study.
Additionally, an executive summary will be included to the City of Sutton, which will address how much major structural damage may have been found during the study.
When the report is finalized by KPE, there will be a collective meeting with the City of Sutton, and the owners of each building that was involved in the evaluation of the buildings, located from the Clay County News, on the very south end of the evaluation area, to the Eagle Pointe Insurance property, on the very north end of the west end of the study area.
