Coming off their 52-39 Southern Nebraska Conference win over Superior, Nov. 30, the Sutton Fillies looked to add to their early season winning ways Saturday, Dec. 2, when the Freeman Falcons invaded the Sutton Dome for a matinee performance in front of the Fillies home crowd.

Sutton’s winning ways, in the end, continued, as a steady offensive surge, combined with 17 Freeman turnovers led the Fillies to a 2-0 start with a 39-32 victory to gain their first non-conference win of the 2023-24 season.

First-half action produced a 20-15 halftime lead, with the Fillies scoring 10 points in each of the first two quarters.

The two teams battled close throughout the second half, with Sutton holding the scoring edge in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring the Falcons 19-17 to secure the seven-point victory.

Junior Jacee Haight paced the Sutton offense with 13 points, while sophomore Kyla Griess and senior Reagan Robinson both hit for eight points.

Junior Avery Robinson hit for five points, with sophomore Miranda Nuss adding three, and freshman Kamryn Steinhauer, two.

The Fillies shot right at 38 percent in the win, sinking 11 of 29 shot attempts. From the foul line, however, Sutton shot a cool 50 percent, Sophomore Miranda Nuss looks to score two of her three points in the Fillies’ 39-32 win over Freeman Saturday, Dec. 2. Nuss pulled down a team high six rebounds in the win. Earlier in the week, during Sutton’s 52-39 win over Superior, Nuss scored 10 points and gained two rebounds to help Sutton finish week one unbeaten.

Nuss and Tori Peterson led the rebounding efforts, with six, and five, respectively. Haight and Steinhauer added three each.

Griess led the assist chart with three, while Avery Robinson had a team high two steals.

Sutton was to take on Heartland in a Tuesday night road contest, and will resume play next week with a trip to McCool Junction, Friday, Dec. 8, before hosting BDS Tuesday, Dec. 12. Both games are slated for 6 p.m.
