Sandy Creek went 2-0 during the opening week of the 2023-24 basketball season with two hard-fought victories over both Wood River and David City.
In the first game of the season, against the Eagles Nov. 30, the Cougars came out on top 44-37 with a healthy amount of scoring from sophomore Oliver Oglesby, as he would end the night with 17 points going 6-8 from the floor (75%).
Then, a little help from the free throw line as the Cougars ended the night going 11 for 16 (69%).
The Cougars also had a strong night rebounding with three offensive rebounds and then 23 defensive rebounds, with Jack Clark always finding the basketball on the rebound, as he would end the night with 11 total rebounds to record a double-double, as he also added 12 points in the win.
Sandy Creek’s defense was something else, as they had nine steals and seven blocks, being led in steals by Clark and Ethan Shaw with three each, while Oliver Oglesby had five of the Cougars’ seven blocks.

The Cougars’ momentum from the first game with the Eagles carried over into the next game against the David City Scouts, Dec. 2, as Sandy Creek came out on top 50-40.
The Cougars offense on Saturday was clicking, as six of the seven players that saw the floor scored, with Shaw leading the Cougars with 15 points, while Oliver Oglesby added 11. The Cougars ball movement produced so many open looks while dishing out 12 assists in the game.
The Cougars cleaned the glass rebounding the basketball 25 times, having eight offensive boards, and 17 defensive rebounds.
Sandy Creek picked the pocket of the Scouts 12 times with Shaw and Kaeden Schmidt leading the Cougars with three steals each.

The Cougars will host the Centennial Broncos Thursday, Dec. 8, in SNC action, before hitting the road again this weekend to take on the Shelby-Rising City Huskies at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, in Shelby.
Sandy Creek then heads west to take on Holdrege on the Dusters home court, Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.
