The 2023 volleyball season for the Sutton Fillies came to a close in the C2-8 sub-district tournament with a tough three-set loss to Southern Nebraska Conference rival, Thayer Central, leaving the Fillies with a 20-13 record.
The season’s first month would see Sutton run to a 15-7 record, but in the final four weeks, the Fillies won five of their final 10 matches.
In all, Sutton won 10 of 16 SNC matches, and claimed 10 non-conference victories.
On the attack, senior Lily McCroden led Sutton with 285 kills, while hitting .167 for the year, converting on 82 percent of her 820 attempts.
Senior Carly Skalka followed with 219 kills, with freshman Kamryn Steinhauer gaining 112 kills and junior Jacee Haight 104.
McCroden set a new school record with a total of 814 kills during her career.
As a team, Sutton hit .114, converting on 2,469 of their 2,972 total attempts, having 503 hitting errors (83.1%).
The team-leader in setting was senior Kennedy Perrien, as she put up 723 assists, while converting on 2,326 of her 2,334 total attempts (99.7%). In all, Sutton had 780 assists, with sophomore Kyla Griess following Perrien with 51 assists. Griess was 50-51 on the year (98%).
Perrien finished her high school career with 1,411 total assists.
Senior Reagan Robinson led the team in two categories, serving and digs from her libero position.
Robinson posted 70 aces on the year, and served at a 90.2 percent rate, converting on 672 of 820 total attempts. Griess followed with 44 aces, while McCroden and Perrien both had 31 aces.
Steinhauer and Haight added 29 and 25 aces respectively.
Sutton, as a team, served at an 83.1 percent clip, making good on 1,617 of their 1,789 service attempts.
As a team, Sutton set a new single match record for aces in their four-set win over Wilber-Clatonia in the opening-round of the C2-8 sub-district tournament, touching up the Wolverines with 21 ace serves in the win.
Robinson, a back row specialist, led the Fillies in digs with 418 on the year. She ended her career with the Fillies with 1,214 digs.
Other leaders on the dig chart proved to be McCroden with 255, Steinhauer, 251, Griess, 248, and Perrien, 219.
Haight led the blocking for the year with 47 total blocks, including seven solo blocks and 40 assisted blocks.
Senior Marlie Drudik finished the season with 32, and Skalka with 24, while Steinhauer had 23, and Perrien 21.
