The Sandy Creek girls 3200-meter relay team made up of juniors Emma Fisher and Anna Paus, along with freshmen Paige Stengel and Madison Shaw, breezed to the eight-lap relay title at the Heartland Invitational Tuesday, April 15. The Cougars won with a time of 10 minutes, 23.52 seconds. Hastings St. Cecilia trailed the Cougars with a time of 10:26.17. In the left picture, Fisher finishes the opening leg of the relay and hands off to Paus, while in the center picture, Paus hands off to Stengel to finish her second leg and begin Stengel’s third leg. In the right picture, Stengel hands off to Shaw to begin the final leg of the race and earn gold in the event. Sandy Creek’s time turned in during the Heartland meet is the fifth fastest in Class C. Yutan currently owns the fastest time in Class C with a time of 10:14.47. The Cougars’ 1600-meter relay team, made up of Carrigan Rempe, Fisher, Shaw, and Paus also claimed a dominating win in Henderson with their time of 4:13.47, which at the completion of the Heartland Invite was the third fastest time in Class C to this point of the 2025 season. West Holt owns the fastest Class C time in the 1600-meter relay, which was ran at the Sandy Creek Invite, April 8. West Holt’s fastest time is 4:04.97. TORY DUNCAN | CLAY COUNTY NEWS
