In just three years, Sandy Creek’s eSports teams have earned five state championships and two runner-ups.
During the spring state competition, the outcome was no different as the SC Rocket League team, consisting of Kaeden Schmidt, Sawyer Voorhees, Nathan McDonald, and Alston Clark, added that fifth championship title last week.
Additionally, SC’s two other eSports teams—Valorant and Fortnite—found success at state.
The Valorant Team, consisting of McDonald, Voorhees, Clark, Ashton Essink, Felipe De Souza, and Luke Soucie, were runner- up against a three-time state champion (in a higher division). The Fortnite Team, consisting of Jaxon Heath, De Souza, Giovanny Ramirez Martinez, and McDonald, went home with a medal.
“I am very proud of this group of kiddos. They have worked very hard to build a very successful program at Sandy Creek,” eSports sponsor Jessie Shipley said.
She added that team members have received several collegiate offers for scholarships after high school.
