Shiners shine during opening weekend
Members of the Saronville Shiners 14 and under baseball team jump-started their 2025 baseball season this past weekend in York, claiming the runner-up trophy in tournament action with a pair of wins in three games. Saronville Shiners 14U team earns runner-up finish in York last weekend

The Saronville Shiners 14 and under baseball team kicked off their second season of action as a Shiners club this past weekend during tournament action in York.

The Shiners took to the diamond and claimed a pair of wins in three games Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13.

The weekend opened with a strong come-from-behind win over the York Blue squad, winning 11-9.

After claiming a 5-1 lead after two innings of play, York mounted a comeback effort in the third and top of the fourth inning to post a 9-7 lead, but Saronville battled back in the bottom of the fourth frame to score four runs and post the two run victory.

Kaige Jones earned the win on the mound, as in two and two-thirds innings of work, Jones struck out three, walked five, and allowed six runs on just two hits.

In relief, Kellen Ebert threw for an inning and a third, striking out four, walking two and allowed three runs on a pair of hits.

At the plate, Bradyn Eikmeier came up big with a triple, a double, and a single, while driving in three runs and scoring twice.

Ebert drove in four runs on a pair of singles, while scoring twice. Camden Wehrman and Conner Aspegren both drove in a run, while Wehrman was 1-2 at the plate with a single.

Saturday’s second game of the York tournament paired the Shiners with the Omaha Tigers, with Saronville coming up huge, taking down the Tigers 16-5 in four innings of play.

Eikmeier and Brockett Reed held the heavy bats in the win, as both had a boule, each driving in a pair of runs. Wehrman, Ebert, and Kyler Ely went 2-2 at the plate, while Pedro Perez was 2-3. Saronville outhit the Tigers 11-6 in the win, while driving in a total of 11 runs on the 11 hits.

Adding a single during the hit parade was Jones, who also drove in one run in the win. Chase Clark was also credited with an RBI.

Jedt Livgren went the distance on the mound for the Shiners. In four innings of work, Livgren struck out seven without giving up a walk to the Tigers. He allowed five runs on just six hits.

During Sunday’s championship title, the Shiners ran up against a tough challenge in the York Gold squad, falling 6-4 to gain runner-up honors.

Saronville was held to just three hits as Jones, Wehrman, and Perez were all 1-2 at the plate.

Livgren and Reed were credited with one RBI during the game, as York outhit the Shiners 8-3.

Wehrman and Reed shared the pitching duties for Saronville. In three innings of work, Wehrman struck out four, walked one, and gave up four runs on five hits. Reed struck out two, without giving up a walk, while allowing two runs on three hits.

Saronville will take on the Waverly Riptide squad this Saturday afternoon at DLD Park in Sutton. The double header is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
