The Sutton Fillies track and field team totalled eight medals to place the Fillies seventh overall during action in the Thayer Central Invite Thursday, April 3 in Hebron.
Jadlynn Kinney had a big day, earning 20 of Sutton’s 31.5 team points scored.
Kinney finished second overall in the 400-meter dash with her time of 62.75 seconds, placing second only to that of Addy Sweeney of Cedar Bluffs who claimed gold with a time of 60.71 seconds.
Kinney then aided both the 400-meter relay and 1600-meter relay teams to thirdplace finishes for another 12 points.
In the 400-meter relay, Kinney, along with Addison George, Madylinn Bautista, and Chloe Bergen, earned third place with their time of 54.91 seconds. Thayer Central claimed gold with a winning time of 52.86 seconds. Southern was second with a time of 54.35 seconds.
In the 1600-meter relay, Kinney, Bergen, Bautista, and Kaci Yost finished third overall with their time of four minutes, 37.35 seconds. Thayer Central also earned gold in this event with a time of 4:34.25. Placing second, just ahead of the Fillies, was Tri County with a time of 4:35.55.
The final track medal came from Bautista in the 100-meter hurdles, as Bautista placed fifth overall with a time of 19 seconds even.
Sandy Creek’s Carrigan Rempe claimed gold with her winning time of 17.45 seconds.
Junior Miranda Nuss added five team points to the Fillies’ cause in the two throwing events, as Nuss was fourth in the shot put with a 30’ 8” heave, while in the discus, Nuss’ 80’ 7” throw placed her sixth.
Winning both events was Fairbury’s Autumn L’Ecuyer. She won the shot put with a 43’ 2” throw, while in the discus, she claimed gold with a 112’ 2” toss.
Yost claimed fourth place in the triple jump with a 30’ 2.5” leap. Cross County’s Lindee Kelley won the jumping event with a 32’ 10.25” jump.
George found herself in a two-way tie for sixth place in the high jump with Fairbury’s Bridget Heidemann, as both cleared the 4’ 6” barrier. Event winner Payton Bauer of Deshler cleared the bar at 4’ 10.”
