When I mess up, I really mess up...at times

THE BULL

Messing up is never fun, and there are times that when I mess up, I REALLY mess up!!! Last week’s paper was a really big one in my book over my career, and I own a major apology to Connor Hinrichs, a standout sophomore wrestler from Sutton High School.

When I announced our All-County wrestling team last week, don’t ask me how I missed this, but I left an extremely strong wrestler off of our 2024-25 team in Hinrichs!

A state qualifier after claiming a district runner-up title, who was 1-2 at the state meet and had an impressive 37-10 record, certainly IS a strong member of our All-County squad, and somehow I didn’t have him as a member of the 202425 team, when in fact he should have been!

I offer my sincere apologies to this young man and for the life of me can’t believe I left him off of the end of the year All-County team. As I said, when I mess up, I REALLY mess up. I can honestly say that I’ve never been more upset with myself for this mess up. Again, my sincere apologies, Connor.

With that said, this week we announce our All-County girls basketball team and their final season recaps, while next week, we will announce our 2024-25 All-County boys basketball teams, along with their recap stories, just in time for the spring sports seasons for girls and boys track, as well as boys golf in Clay County.

In track, Harvard will compete in Class D this year, while Sutton and Sandy Creek compete in Class C. In boys golf, Sandy Creek will remain in Class D this year, while the Sutton boys will move up to Class C this season.

It should be a heck of a spring and here’s hoping that I won’t have another major miscue during the spring sports season someway, somehow!

While I know that being an All-Clay County selection is the highest of accolaides for a student-athlete, I can guarantee that this mistake wasn’t one that I take lightly. I guess when I found out that I had inadvertenly missed Mr. Hinrichs, of course AFTER the paper was printed, my heart sank to a pretty big low spot. Like our six wrestlers that were shown in last weeks announcement, including state champion Rowan Jarosik, state runner-up Griffin Bergen, fourth-place state medalist Connor Rempe, along with Sutton’s Billy Marshall and Aaron Sanchez and Sandy Creek’s Josh Spray, Hinrichs certainly IS an All-County level wrestler and will prove to be a powerful wrestler for the Mustang program during the next two seasons for head coach Ron Gerber.

So once again, Connor and the Sutton program, I greatly apologize for my glaring mess up. No words can describe my apologies enough for THIS mess up, but I truly do apologize for this mistake. -Tory
