Following a 50-43 first-round win over Sutton in the C2-7 sub-district tournament at Cross County High School Sandy Creek’s season came to a halt in the C2-7 final. The Cougars, in their battle with the host Cross County girls, dropped a 39-26 decision to end their season with a 14-10 record Thursday, Feb. 20.
Sandy Creek began the game effectively on both offense and defense, executing on defense, getting stops, and controlling the pace of the game on offense, ultimately taking the lead in the first quarter.
Just before halftime, Cross County made a three-pointer at the buzzer, securing a six-point lead. In the third quarter, Cross County extended their lead to 10 points, and Sandy Creek was unable to recover from the double-digit deficit.
Sandy Creek concluded the evening with a total of 26 points. Emma Fisher was the leading scorer with 11 points, followed by Ryleigh Skalka with eight, and Carrigan Rempe with seven.
Throughout the night, Sandy Creek collected 23 rebounds, with 17 on defense and six on offense. Additionally, the team recorded four steals and five assists.
Skalka pulled down eight rebounds, with Fisher and Caitlyn Biltoft grabbing five each. Skalka and Rempe dished out two assists each, while Rempe had a teamleading two steals.
