The Harvard/Giltner wrestling team took on the field of teams in the Twin Valley Conference and Fort Kearny Conference annual wrestling meet, held this year at Shelton High School.
The H/G squad tallied 26 total points, placing 15th in the 16-team field with Pedro Perez and Brexten Kobza both earning third place honors in their weight classes.
Wilcox-Hildreth outscored second- place Pleasanton, to win the tournament over the Bulldogs 137-123.
Kobza, wrestling in the 132-pound weight class, scored 16 of the team’s 26 points, winning three of four matches in the process. All three of Kobza’s wins came by pin, with the first coming in 1:56 over William Beattie of SEM. Following a tough 1:45 pinfall loss to Gavin Patterson of Wilcox-Hildreth, Kobza bounced back to pin Miguel Lopez of Loomis in 3:17, while in the battle for third place, Kobza again pinned Beattie of SEM, this time in 2:24. Kobza stands with a 12-21 record as Harvard/Giltner returns to Shelton for the D-1 District meet Friday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, Feb. 15.
Perez gained the other 10 team points with his third-place run in the 106-pound weight class. He was 1-2 on the day to take his season record to 12-20.
Perez opened with a 2:10 pinfall loss to Ryder Zimmerman of Red Cloud/ Blue Hill. In round two, Perez fell to Kamden Robinson of Elm Creek by way of a 2:46 tech fall loss, before gaining his one win of the day with a 21-second pinfall win over Mikah Eiley of Wilcox-Hildreth.
Alexander Perera-Kunovsky gained one win in three matches, but fell short of medal contention. Perera-Kunovsky pinned Amherst’s Gavin Knajdl in 1:40 for his lone win of the day.
Blayden Porter (150), and Kyle Knueven (165) fell short of wins during the meet.
