Sutton girls run record to 9-3 with weekend split on the road
After an opening-week game against Centura that proved to be a thriller, the Sutton girls basketball team stumbled against Cross County, falling 52-41 to the Cougars, before bouncing back in yet another road game with a 38-33 victory at Centennial, to run their season record to 9-3.
Against Cross County, the Fillies shot just under 39 percent from the floor, sinking 17 of 44 total shots, while making just two of three foul shots in the game.
The Cougars owned a 2320 halftime lead, but broke the game open in the second half with runs of 11-7 in the third, and 18-14 in the fourth to seal the 11-point win.
Jacee Haight and Jadlynn Kinney combined for 28 points, as Haight tallied 17, and Kinney, 11.
Miranda Nuss added seven, and Kamryn Steinhauer, six, to round out the scoring for the Fillies.
Haight also led Sutton on the glass with seven, while Kyla Griess grabbed six, and Kaci Yost, four.
Avery Smith dished out six assists, while joining Kinney and Griess with two steals each.

Sutton’s rebound against Centennial produced an 1816 halftime lead, before the Fillies outscored the Broncos 20-17 in the second half to secure the five-point victory.
Isabella Trejo led the scoring attack with a trio of three-point buckets for nine points, while Smith and Haight both added seven to pace the Fillies bounce back win.
Haight grabbed a teamhigh 11 rebounds, with Griess pulling down six, while Yost and Nuss had cour each.
