Sutton boys move winning streak to 6 straight with wins over Mead, Archbishop Bergan
Ever since the Sutton Mustangs suffered a tough 68-33 opening-game road loss at Freeman Dec. 7, the Mustangs have been on fire. Sutton has won six straight games and claimed the Osceola Holiday Tournament title with a 64-47 win over Mead in the opening- round, and a 54-45 title game win over Archbishop Bergan of Fremont to stand at 6-1 as they head into the 2025 portion of their season.
In the six wins, the Mustangs are putting up an average of 65.5 points per game, but just as impressive, the Sutton defense is holding their opposition in those six wins to just 38.7 points per game.
Senior Aidan Jones scorched the Osceola nets, combining for 44 points, as he hit for 20 against Mead and netted 24 points against Bergan.
Sutton held leads of 17-12 and 34-17 after the first two quarters of play in the opening- round win over Mead. The Mustangs and Mead then both hit for 30 points in the second half to produce the 17-point victory.
Jones was 5-8 from the floor (62.5%) and was a perfect 8-8 at the foul line to lead Sutton.
Three other players hit in double figures as well, with Keith Kliewer scoring 14, Payton Reed, 11, and Jacob Huxoll 10, while Harrison Herndon added nine to account for the Mustangs’ scoring in the win.
As a team, Sutton was 22-41 from the floor (53.7%) and was a sluggish 14-29 at the foul line (48.3%).
Reed and Weston Ohrt each had six rebounds, Kliewer gained five, while Huxoll and Jones both had four rebounds.
Herndon dished out four assists against Mead, while Jones and David Fonseca both had three.
Herndon and Huxoll had two steals each to account for all four of Sutton’s thefts in the win.

Following his big game in the tournament opener, Jones continued to tickle the twine against Bergan, shooting 5-11 from the floor (45.5%), while draining 10 of 14 foul shots (71.4%).
Herndon dropped in nine points, Ohrt, eight, Reed, six, with Huxoll and Kliewer both scoring three, and Fonseca, one.
Sutton was 13-29 from the floor (44.8%) and hit on 20 of their 31 foul shots (64.5%).
Reed’s eight rebounds led Sutton on the glass, with Jones and Herndon gaining seven each, and Ohrt, six.
Jones dished out two assists to lead and claimed the lone recorded steal for the Mustangs.
