8 Sandy Creek, 4 Sutton players honored by statewide media

Eight Sandy Creek football players, and four Sutton players have earned post-season honors for their play during the 2024 Class D-1 season, led by Cougar senior, Ethan Shaw, who was tabbed as the Player of the Year by Bob Jensen’s Huskerland Preps online publication, as well as being named as the captain of the Class D-1 All-State team by both the Lincoln Journal-Star and the Omaha World-Herald. Shaw and his Cougar teammates reached the pinnacle of Class D-1 this year, winning the state football championship and completing a perfect 13-0 season with their 44-42 title game win over the Stanton Mustangs. The 6-2, 190-pound senior capped his final season with 2,026 passing yards and 1,698 rushing yards.

Adding to the Cougar’s post-season highlights proved to be the fact that three other seniors were honored as first-team selection by the two daily newspapers, as both papers named Connor Rempe, Hudson Devlin, and Jack Watts as first-team honorees for their play in helping Sandy Creek win the D-1 title. Sandy Creek also landed four additional players on the Class D-1 honorable mention list, including Wes Biltoft, Alston Clark, Kamerin Sealey, and Jacob Petr.

Sutton also had four players wrap up the 2024 season as honorable mention selections, including Gabe Gwennap, Jacob Huxoll, Weston Ohrt, and Brayden Griess.
