When the TeamMates Program started at Sandy Creek, Bob Rose of Edgar was the corrdinator, with Sam Nezejchleb of Fairfield as the co-coordinator.
Today, the program is celebrating 25 years of dedication to students.
“There are not a lot of chapters who have maintained and sustained for so long,” SC Coordinator Brenda Searle said Friday during a celebration event.
Currently, SC has 48 students (mentees) in the program.
As Nancy Osborne, who co-founded the program with her husband, Tom, once said, “As long as the schools stay true to the system we’ve put into place, they’ll continue to succeed.”
SC has done just that. “I see lots of joy and smiles on the students’ faces...you’re making a difference,” Searle said to the mentors attending the celebration.
DeMoine Adams, Team-Mates CEO, also attended the event, giving praise to SC and it’s communities for helping students reach their potential.
“Thank you for believing in the vision of Tom and Nancy,” he said.
He continued, saying how this community, school, and program has shown great commitment and leadership over the years.
“This program has gone for 25 years and not all programs get to this point. So thank you mentors for your commitment, and to the board leaders for backing the program to keep it going. Thank you to the parents for letting your kids be in this program, and thank you to the students—you are a part of something special, and we hope you continue to stay in the program.”
Following the girls basketball game, all mentors and mentees were recognized by name.
Other coordinators over the years have included Jen Bargen, who took over after Rose; and Britney Whitten, Darcie Boman, and Keri Dane, who serve as co-coordinators.
