SC girls run record to 3-1 with wins over Centennial, Tri County

The Sandy Creek girls bounced back after a Dec. 7 loss to David City and responded with a dominat victory over Centennial 53-25, Thursday, Dec. 12, before holding off the Tri County Trojans 59-55 to reach their current 3-1 record.

Sandy Creek got into rhythm against Centennial early with multiple steals and easy layups in transition, and hit multiple threes to extend their lead later in the game, to post the 28-point victory over the Broncos.

Sandy Creek finished the night with 19 steals, 16 assists, and a total of 45 rebounds, with 22 offensive and 23 defensive rebounds.

Leading the Cougars in scoring was Emma Fisher with 20 points, Ryleigh Skalka added 14, Madison Shaw had eight, Paige Biltoft had three, Carrigan Rempe had three, and Katelyn Pohlmeier had two.

On the glass, Fisher came up huge, gathering 18 boards to complete her double-double in the win, while Rempe pulled down 10 rebounds.

Shaw had a team-high seven steals, with Fisher gaining five, while Shaw dished out a team-high eight assists in the win.

Saturday’s matinee battle at Tri County High School proved to be a monumental battle between the Cougars and Trojans.

The Cougars shot just under 45 percent from the floor, making 21 of 47 total shots, and were a perfect 6-6 at the foul line, while Tri County was 22-56 in the game and hit six of 10 foul shots.

The difference maker for Sandy Creek was the fact that they nailed 11 three-point shots, compared to just five for Tri County. SC was 11-29 from long range (37.9%), while Tri County was just 5-17 (29.4%).

Paige Biltoft, Skalka, and Fisher combined for 46 points in the win, led by 17 from Biltoft, 15 from Skalka, and 14 from Fisher.

Rempe added eight points, while Shaw chipped in with five.

Fisher again recorded a double-double, as she had 11 rebounds to go with her 14 points, while Rempe gained seven rebounds.

Rempe led in steals with three, while Shaw dished out an impressive nine assists.
