Cougars dominate D1-7 District honors

12 Sandy Creek and 6 Sutton players earn post-season football honors

As dominant as the Sandy Creek Cougars were on the football field, ending the 2024 season with the Class D-1 state championship over the Stanton Mustangs 44-42, the Cougars continued their dominance in the post-season, as a total of 12 Cougars earned honors from coaches in the Class D1-7 District.

Sutton, who finished the year with a 5-4 record after a first-round playoff loss to Arapahoe, had six players earn post-season honors by the district.

Sandy Creek’s players on the firstteam offense included: quarterback Ethan Shaw, receiver Connor Rempe, offensive linemen Jack Watts and Hudson Devlin, along with tight end/ linebacker Wes Biltoft.

Second-team honors for the Cougars went to: Alston Clark as a linebacker, Jacob Petr as a tight end/defensive lineman, Christian Shaw as a lineman, Kamerin Sealey as a receiver and defensive back, and Ben Sullivan as a running back.

Honorable mention honors for the Cougars were Jonas Amos and Josh Spray.

For the Mustangs, first-team offensive honors went to Jacob Huxoll as a linebacker and running back, and to Wyatt Pollet as a quarterback and defensive back.

Second-team honors went to Aidan Jones as an offensive lineman/linebacker, and Gabe Gwennap as a receiver and defensive back.

Honorable mention honors were earned by Weston Ohrt and Brayden Griess.

The full D1-7 All-District team is as follows: FIRST-TEAM SANDY CREEK: Ethan Shaw, Connor Rempe, Hudson Devlin, Jack Watts, and West Biltoft.

THAYER CENTRAL: Sam Souerdyke, Cole Vorderstrasse, David Johnson, and Brady Degenhardt.

EXETER-MILLIGAN/FRIEND: Mike Bartu, Jacob Klooz, and Aiden Vavra.

SUTTON: Jacob Huxoll, and Wyatt Pollet. TRI COUNTY: Cole Spahr. SOUTHERN: Cooper Warford. SECOND-TEAM SANDY CREEK: Jacob Petr, Alston Clark, Christian Shaw, Kamerin Sealey, and Ben Sullivan.

THAYER CENTRAL: Laken Wiedel, Lukas Kroll, Colton Kuhlmann, and Brighton Hergott.

EXETER-MILLIGAN/FRIEND: AJ Mueller, Mark Milton, and Zach Spohn.

SUTTON: Aidan Jones and Gabe Gwennap. TRI COUNTY: Ibrahim Castillo. SOUTHERN: Kale Ames. HONORABLE MENTION
