There’s a new but familiar face at the Crooked Creek Country Club, as Cynthia Furman has taken over as manager.
Furman said Crooked Creek is a familiar hangout for her and knew they needed a new manager. Her love for the country club and the fact that she was looking for a change made the decision easier.
Her responsibilities include anything involving the clubhouse and outside of the course. John Story has been and still is the caretaker for the course and all that entails.
“John’s been great to work with and has given me some sound advice,” Furman said.
She will also help the seven-person board with planning and organizing the yearly tournaments.
As the club manager is a different position and work style than her previous job at the courthouse, she said it’s been an adjustment but a good one.
Furman added how the managing part was fairly easy to get into a routine with, but the hours were a bigger adjustment.
Overall, everything has gone smoothly, and she was able to work briefly with the former manager, learning things she wanted to keep and things to change.
The course is closed for the 2024 tournaments and they are transitioning to the winter schedule, which is making the clubhouse as more of a bar.
Her biggest goal after taking over as manager is reaching out to people who have never been to the club, as well as helping others understand the clubhouse is open to everyone, not just members or those who play golf.
Winter hours will be around 2 p.m. and can go as late as 1 a.m. They will be serving food regularly, such as pizza and wings, and will be closed Sundays and Tuesdays. Mondays are for pool league.
Besides Furman, the clubhouse has a staff of three to four bartenders who rotate in the winter, with a bigger staff in the summer.
