Sandy Creek set to host rematch with Shelby-Rising City in D-1 quarter final game
The Cougars rolled to the quarter finals in the class D-1 state football playoffs with a big win over Sandhills Valley 76-12.
For the Cougars, it was a slow start as they would only score once in the first 12 minutes, but in the second quarter, SC jumped out to a big lead by scoring 38 points.
In the first quarter, Sandhills Valley gave the Cougars a run as the Mavericks drove down the field to the four-yard line, but Sandy Creek stood tall and turned away Sandhills Valley.
Sandy Creek took over on their own four-yard line and drove down the field with a 36-yard Ethan Shaw scamper and a few plays later Shaw found the end zone for the score. Shaw found Jacob Petr for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 with 3:38 to go in the first.
In the second quarter it was all Cougars, as they scored 38 unanswered points until the final minutes when Sandhills Valley scored.
The Cougars scored on a 28-yard pass from Shaw to Connor Rempe, with Rempe earning the two-point conversion to make it 16-0.
Sandy Creek scored on their next offensive possession with a Shaw 10-yard keeper for six. For the two-point conversion, Shaw found Jack Clark to make it 24-0 with 8:52 to go in the second quarter.
Sandy Creek would start with great field position after a Petr strip sack with Jack Watts falling on the football at the Sandhills Valley five-yard line.
Shaw then ran it in for the score and Rempe’s PAT was good to make it 31-0. The Cougars’ defense got a turnover on downs and on their own 12-yard line Shaw aired it deep to Rempe and he would haul it in for a 68-yard touchdown, and Ben Sullivan ran it in for the two-point conversion to make it 39 to 0 with 4:22 to go in the half.
The Cougars’ next drive Shaw would find Rempe again for a 35-yard score and Rempe’s PAT would be good to make it 46-0 with 1:51 to go before half. In the final seconds before halftime Sandhills Valley scored to make it 46-6.
Out of the half Kamerion Sealey found the end zone from one yard out and Sealey would walk in the two-point conversion to make it 54-6 with 8:32 to go in the third.
Alex Watts intercepted the ball at the Cougar 35-yard line. Sandy Creek drove down the field and would score with a Wyatt Livgren 11-yard touchdown run, and Sealey found Coen Eitzmann for the two-point conversion to make it 62-6.
Sandhills Valley would score once more to make it 62-12. The Cougars scored twice before the end of the game with a Livgren one-yard touchdown, with Livgren running in the twopoint conversion to make it 70-12.
The Cougars forced a fumble on their next defensive possession to set up a 28-yard Livgren touchdown run, to make the final score Cougars 76, Sandhills Valley 12.
THE COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS
The Cougars offensive stats had them with 147 yards passing and 292 yards rushing for a total of 439 yards.
Shaw would go four for four with 147 yards passing and three touchdowns, with Rempe having three receptions for 131 yards and three touchdowns, and Sealey with one reception for 16 yards.
The Cougars’ leading rusher was Shaw with nine carries for 127 yards and three touchdowns, Livgren had 10 carries for 110 yards and three touchdowns; Sealey had four carries for 35 yards and one touchdown; Sullivan had two carries for 10 yards; and Wyatt Hemberger had one carry for 10 yards.
The Cougars defensive stats would have them at 85 total tackles, seven sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble. Leading tackler was Rempe with 13, Alston Clark had 10, Shaw, Wes Biltoft, Hudson Devlin, and Jack Watts had seven, Alex Watts had six, Petr, and Eitzmann had five, Sealey, Livgren, Hemberger, Josh Spray, and Jack Clark had three, Jaxen Heath, Sam Watts, and Evan Swartzendruber had one. Devlin and Petr led the Cougars in sacks with two each, and Alston Clark, Spray, and Sam Watts each had one.
Alex Watts would record the only Cougar interception, and Petr would force the only fumble for the Cougars.

Sandy Creek hosts Shelby- Rising City Nov. 8, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
The Huskies come into Friday’s game after a 30-22 win over Arapahoe Nov. 1.
