Shaw earns Class D All-State honors by NCA

As the Sandy Creek girls cross country team closed out the 2024 season with a monumental Class D runner-up team finish during the state championships Friday, Oct. 25 in Kearney, freshman Madison Shaw, who placed fifth overall in the 5000-meter state run at the Kearney Country Club, has added another honor to her credit. The Nebraska Coaches Association named Shaw as one of seven girls in Class D to be honored as either a Super-State selection, or an All-State selection by the organization.

Class D’s individual state champion Kayleigh Betka of McCool Junction was tabbed as the lone Super-State selection by the NCA organization.

Shaw joins Sage Holtmeier of Tri County, Angela Frick of North Central, Ashley Robertson of Wallace, Mazzy Kuchar of Elkhorn Valley, and Ava Brennan of Ponca as All-State selections for 2024.

The following criteria was applied: Selections were based solely on state performances. No more than 20 total athletes across all classes are named Super State.

State Champions in each class must be included in the Super State 20 runners.

Any athletes finishing in the top seven places within a class not named to Super State earn All-State honors.
