The Sandy Creek cross country teams took on yet another big challenge with the running of the Southern Nebraska Conference meet at the Hidden Hills Country Club in Geneva, Thursday, Oct. 10.

The girls closed out their respective runs over the 5000-meter course as the SNC champions, winning over second place Tri County by 11 points, as the Cougars outscored the Trojans 11-22.

The freshmen duo of Madison Shaw and Paige Stengel wrapped up the girls run with second and third-place finishes, following Tri County’s Sage Holtmeier, who won the SNC individual title with her time of 21 minutes, 4.32 seconds.

Shaw brought home the silver medal with her second- place time of 21:15.34, while Stengel earned thirdplace in the field of 36 runners with her time of 21:19.98.

Sophomore teammate, Madalyn Andersen had an excellent day in Geneva, placing sixth overall with her time of 22:36.9 to enable the Cougar girls to claim the conference title over the Trojans.

On the boys side, Sandy Creek freshman Embry Frazier placed 38th in the field of 43 runners with his time of 23:52.78.

POST-SEASON SCHEDULE The Cougars head into the post-season this week, where they will head to the D-4 District meet at Camp Keteri, south of McCool Junction Thursday, Oct. 17. According to the McCool Junction website, the boys 5000-meter race will begin at 4 p.m., with the girls set to run at approximately 4:45 p.m.

The Class D state cross country races at the Kearney Country Club, Friday, Oct. 25, will see the Class D boys will run at 2:30 p.m., while the Class D girls race will begin at 3:30 p.m.
