Fox Hollow breaks ground on addition

New addition will expand interior social space to nearly 5,000 square feet

It’s been since the Fox Hollow Golf Course officially opened in May of 1995 that the clubhouse for the course has seen any major improvements. Current board members of the course have announced a 2,560 square foot expansion to the facility will happen in preparation for the 30th anniversary of the Sutton course next summer.

According to current board president, Bryan Roemmich, and board treasurer, Tristan Sheridan, the addition will come with a $400-$450 thousand dollar price tag, and the addition will primarily be constructed with the help of private donations for the project.

“We plan on using local contractors and volunteers as much as possible throughout the expansion process,” Sheridan noted.

Roemmich shared that discussion for the project has been ongoing for at least a couple of years. “We’ve spent a lot of time over the years replacing trees and other things on the course, and we felt that it was time to expand the clubhouse, since it has been 30 years since any major improvements have been made to the clubhouse.”

With that expansion, which will take the clubhouse from its current 2,370 square feet to 4,930 square feet, improvements to the outdoor seating and patio areas will also be expanded around to the south side of the clubhouse and will include new outdoor seating along the current building, and across to the new addition.

Roemmich and Sheridan shared that they are about halfway there in regard to fundraising for the project. “We’ve seen such an uptick in the growth of events, not just golf tournaments, but the use of the clubhouse for community events that we felt that it was beyond time to expand the facility and make it more community-friendly, and usable for groups and organizations in the area,” Roemmich noted.

In honor of the forefathers that stepped up and brought the realization of a new golf course in Sutton back in 1995, and sooner, the current board members are planning a 30th-anniversary celebration in the summer of 2025 to commemorate the work and effort of the original board members, and community for creating the nine hole course in Sutton. No exact date for the commemoration celebration has been set at this point, however.

Since the July 29, 2023 tornado did significant damage to the Fox Hollow course, maintenance shed, and cart sheds, the course has worked hard to rebuild the damaged facilities, and thanks to Matt Kliewer and his crew with Cedar Hill Construction, the damaged facilities have been long repaired.

Roemmich also noted that the clubhouse addition isn’t the only thing board members are paying attention to.

“We are spending a great deal of time currently, and in the future, of doing some grass reseeding, as well as tee box leveling, and we’ve introduced 27 new hardwood trees to the course, replacing much of the dying pine trees on the course.”

Currently, reseeding and leveling projects are happening on the No. 2, No. 7, and No. 9 tee boxes. Cartpath work will also be taking place in the future, as well as, drainage flow, and pond clean up, in a few area’s of the course.

“We’re also trying to figure out ways to cut down on the amount of grass that needs to be mowed on the 73.8 acre course and possibly take some of the course and seed it to native grasses, but we haven’t for sure figured out what we’ll be doing in that regard,” Roemmich shared.

Current board members for the course includes: Roemmich, president; Andrew Van Kirk, vice-president; Tristan Sheridan, treasurer; Tyler Keenan, secretary; and board members BJ Smith, Colt Pope, Jon Zoucha, Spencer Friesen, and Lance Gemar.
