Sutton’s girls golf team brought home their second runner-up team finish in three days of action at the Kearney Catholic Invite, Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Meadowlark Golf Course in west Kearney.
The Fillies trailed only Broken Bow, the defending Class C state champions from 2023, in the final standings.
The Indians outshot Sutton 383-399 for the title, while Grand Island Central Catholic trailed the Fillies with a final team score of 419.
For the second straight tournament, Mia Ochsner led Sutton, shooting an 18hole 87 to trim five strokes off of her team-leading 93 at the Doniphan-Trumbull Invite, Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Grand Island.
Oschner opened the tournament with a front-nine 42, while rounding out the tournament with a 45 on the back nine holes of play. She finished fourth in the final individual standings.
The tournament title went to Julia Messere of Grand Island Central Catholic who won with a 79.
Following Oschner was the senior duo of Chloe Bergen and Avery Robinson, as both ended the day with scores of 103 each to place ninth and 10th overall in the final standings.
Bergen began the day with a 49 on the front nine, while on the back nine she carded a 54. Robinson began the day in Kearney with a 50 and wrapped up play with a 53.
Rounding out the day for Sutton was Laurel Moore who carded a 106, shooting scores of 53 in the front and back nine holes of play to finish in the top 15, placing 13th overall. Shepleigh Ohrt, shot a 121 with scores of 63 on the front and 58 on the back.
