Goodwill DDS group says thanks with plaque

Every Thursday during the summer months, members of Goodwill Developmental Disability Services go swimming.

The Hastings group has done this for the last three years, and recently presented a plaque to Deb Schmoldt, manager at the Clay Center Pool, for her willingness to open the pool early each Thursday so the group can swim.

Bonnie Nielsen said Clay Center’s Pool is great for handicapped visitors, such as her daughter, Roxanne, who is a participant of Goodwill DDS and requires a wheelchair to get around.

With it’s zero entry and wheelchair accessibility, those who need a wheelchair or walker, or have difficulty moving can easily get in and out of the pool.

Thursday, Aug. 1, the group presented the plaque to Schmoldt in between enjoying time in the pool.

Whether they hung out in the shade or dove right in, those in the program appeared to be having fun swimming laps, splashing, floating on their back, or playing volleyball/basketball.
