Clay Center resident Bonnie Schwindt, 94, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center, with Pastor Steven Markle officiating. Interment followed at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www. mclaughlinchapel.com. Bonnie was born to Floyd and Edna (Brenneman) Lovgren on March 28, 1930, and was raised on a farm east of Harvard. She attended a country school through eighth grade and then graduated from Harvard High School in 1947. She married Freddy Schwindt, Jr., on Feb. 14, 1950, and resided in Clay Center for the next 74 years until moving to Sutton Community Home in May 2024. She and Fred raised two daughters: Judy Kay and Patti Ann. She was a devoted farmwife, helping Fred with many tasks until Fred’s passing in July of 1992. She was a member of the Happy Homemakers Extension Club in Clay County for over 50 years, as well as a 70+ year member of the New York Ave. Congregational Church in Hastings where she taught Sunday School and led the children’s choir for many years.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Judy Jensen (Wayne) of Lincoln, and Patti Slepicka (Leland) of Clay Center; four grandchildren, Matthew Jensen of Marion, IA; Nathan Jensen of Papillion, Andrew Slepicka of Clay Center, and Christine Slepicka of Lincoln; sister, Phyllis Bartlett of Harvard; sisterin- law, Margaret Lovgren of Holdrege; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, Jr.; parents, Floyd and Edna Lovgren; parents-in-law, Fred Schwindt Sr. and Margaretha Schwindt; brother, Richard (Dick) Lovgren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
