Sutton splits with Jeffs, Scouts in SNC consolation quad, Oct. 17

Following a tough three-set loss to Milford in the opening- round of the Southern Nebraska Conference volleyball tournament, the Sutton Fillies remained at home for a four-team consolation quadrangular that pitted the Fillies against David City and Fairbury, two teams that Sutton just went to battle with, Oct. 5, in Fairbury.

Following a tough three-set loss to Milford in the opening- round of the Southern Nebraska Conference volleyball tournament, the Sutton Fillies remained at home for a four-team consolation quadrangular that pitted the Fillies against David City and Fairbury, two teams that Sutton just went to battle with, Oct. 5, in Fairbury.

Sutton gained revenge over the Jeffs in the opening game, after Fairbury downed the Fillies Oct. 5, in straightsets, winning the match 2518, 25-21 on the Fillies home court.

Sutton hit at a .191 clip, while converting on 58 of 68 total attacks at the net. The Fillies were led by seven kills from senior Lily Mc-Croden, while junior Jacee Haight added six kills, with freshman Kamryn Steinhauer downing five kills in the win.

Setting up the attack, senior setter Kennedy Perrien put up 20 assists, while going a perfect 46-46 in the match.

Sutton had just three aces in the service lane, with Haight gaining two, and sophomore Kyla Griess one.

As a team, Sutton served just under 92 percent for the match, as Sutton had just four errors in 49 total attempts.

Seniors Marlie Drudik and McCroden had one block each, while the dig charts were led by Griess with 11.

Senior Reagan Robinson and Steinhauer had six digs each, with Haight finishing with four.

During the Oct. 5 meeting in Fairbury, the Fillies earned a three-set win over the Scouts, but as fate would have it during the Oct. 17 match in Sutton, the Scouts returned the favor, gaining a three-set victory over Sutton, winning, 25-15, 20-25, 25-16, as the Fillies fell to 19-12 with the loss.

A total of 22 errors, seven in the service lane, and 15 on the attack helped lead to the Fillies demise.

Sutton was 50-57 serving (87.7%), with five players having one ace, including Robinson, Perrien, Steinhauer, Griess, and Haight.

On the attack, Sutton hit just .089, as they were 86-101 (85.1%) Haight had a team-high eight kills, with McCroden adding seven, and senior Carly Skalka, six, while Steinhauer added three.

Setting up the attack, Perrien put up 16 assists, while converting on all 72 of her set attempts.

Defensive leaders proved to be Perrien and Haight with one block each. Robinson and Perrien led in digs, with 11 each, while Steinhauer and McCroden added seven each to the final tally.
