NCTA Wins Nationals in Crops, Ag Computers

Crookston, Minn.–The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture took 21 students to a national contest in Minnesota last week and garnered awards for their two-year college in Curtis. Aggie teams won national titles in crops judging and agricultural computers, with second place in the always competitive livestock judging contest. NCTA teams earned third places in agribusiness management and dairy judging, with fourth-place teams in ag sales, horse judging and livestock management.

LEAD Fellowship Apps Available for Group 36

Lincoln, Neb. — Fellowship applications for Nebraska LEAD (Leadership Education/Action Development) group 36 are available for men and women involved in production agriculture or agribusiness. “Up to 30 motivated men and women with demonstrated leadership potential will be selected from five geographic districts across our state,” said Terry Hejny, Nebraska LEAD Program director.

Pelicans Pass Through Area...

Hundreds of pelicans have made southeast Clay County their home over the course of the past two weeks flying back and forth between a few area ponds and the Hansen Waterfowl Protection Area, located just north of Highway 74 along Road X. The Hansen WPA, north of Ong, has been a hotbed flyway for all types of migrant birds during the late winter and early spring seasons

Seminar to Offer Info about Farm Management

Anyone who owns farmland may want to participate in a seminar to receive information and education about the ownership of farmland, put on by the Nebraska Extension office in Adams County. Participants will learn management strategies for this asset by attending the seminar in Hastings, at the Adams County Fairgrounds, 947 S. Baltimore Ave.

The old bridge running across School Creek, at the intersection of Highway 6 and Road S in Clay County, has new life after flooding from June 3-6, 2015 made the old bridge impassible. Van Kirk Bros. Rural Energy for America Program Grants Due May 2

Lincoln, NE., March 8, 2016 -- The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), is a program that helps agriculture producers and businesses reduce their energy usage and improve their profitability through grants and/or guaranteed loans. Assistance is available for energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy systems. REAP grants are available for up to 25% of the total eligible project costs.

The Boards of Directors for the Little Blue and Tri-Basin Natural Resources Districts have taken action to initiate voluntary integrated management plans for their respective districts. The Integrated Management Plans will be cooperative efforts between the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and the two natural resources districts.
