Sutton resident Stephen John Leininger, 77, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Legacy Square in Henderson after a long battle with brain cancer.

A Rosary was prayed at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at the church with Father Michael Zimmer officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery in Sutton.

Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com Steve was the youngest of 11 children born to Fred and Etta (Lohmeier) Leininger on Feb. 24, 1946. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1964 and married his high school sweetheart, Marcia Weber. To this union seven children were born. Steve started farming and raising cattle. Those who knew Steve knew how he loved raising the best cows around and spending a lot of time at his Guide Rock pasture cutting trees.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Etta; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Marie Weber; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Dona, Max and Regina, Kenny, Leo and Delores, and infant brother, Anthony; brother-inlaw, Duane Rasby; sisters, Lynn, Marge and Oscar; Jacqueline and Rich and Alyce; and sister-in-law, Dawn Wiedel Steve is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marcia of Sutton; five sons and two daughters, Doug (Lynda) of Texas, Jeff (Kris) of Pleasant Dale, Todd (Patty) of Sutton, Kelli (Bryan) Becker of Lincoln, Tim of Minnesota, Matt (Cathy) of Missouri, and Amanda (Jason) Knudson of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Caeleb, Rieley, Justun, Ava, Grant and Sam Leininger; Kash, Laney and Bode Knudsen; one sister, Joan Rasby; sisters-in-law, Ann Leininger and Sandy Fenton; brother-in-law, Joe and wife Colleen Weber; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He will be missed by many.
